Deluxe Butterfly Feeder
from

"About your Butterfly Feeder ~
The sponge that comes with your Butterfly Feeder
was harvested from the Gulf of Mexico and comes from
a small Greek Village called Tarpon Springs,
located on the west coast of central Florida.."

"All you need to do to attract the Butterflies is add
a Sugar Water mixture inside the container.
Mix 4 parts water to 1 part sugar.  Some folks
even use fruit punch Gatorade, either one will do just fine.
You will want to boil your sugar water mixture for
3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally (this will break
down the granular sugar)."

I purchased my Butterfly Feeder at

Yellow Onions

Waldmann's Dark Green Lettuce
purchased at Walmart

Also from the same company online,
I have purchased:
Summer Squash
Squash Winter Butternut
Squash Winter Gold Nugget
Garlic Chives
Gourment European Salad Mix

Chives
been using from this bunch for about a year now

and I'm gardening,
keeping track of what I've planted
and
what I've ordered
and
I still have half a patio
left to use for veggies and flowers!
but
forget that
I'm ready to eat!

  1. Bon Apetite! Just don't eat the butterfly sponge.
    Or, indeed, the butterflies.

  2. What a wonderful green thumb you have Theanne! It's so nice to see such pretty green plants. My grandmother lived in Tarpon Springs when she was alive. I went to see her there and we watched them dive for sponges. Love Di ♥

    1. I haven't seen them diving for sponges yet...but soon I'm going to be doing a day trip up the road to Tarpon Springs to take photos! They're about 10 minutes away!

  4. We grow many of the same things, including amaryllis. What is the butterfly sponge doing with the hummingbird feeder? Are they two separate things?

    1. you put the sugar water in the ceramic part of the feeder, then you put the sponge in the sugar water. The sugar water is pulled up into the sponge and the butterflies sit on the sponge and suck up the sugar water...I'll know this works when the butterflies start coming.

  5. Hi, I have never heard of a butterfly feeder. But I have heard of Tarpon Springs. Ate at a Greek Restaurant There once, and upon leaving one young tourist asked could he take my picture, mistaking me for a Greek Fisherman, I was flattered.
Lovely pictures, wish I know the names of all the Flora.

    1. hope all are ok...I delayed planting anything on my patio waiting to see if we were going to have frost...it does not appear we are! I say that and the next thing I know we'll have the worst freeze west central Florida has ever seen!

    1. oh dear...I have wasps already so it'll probably attract them...bees I don't mind...I would love to have bees on my patio! I figure a ceramic cup with a sponge and sugar water will do the trick. I'll probably make myself some more...attracting butterflies is a big deal here in Florida...there are so many that live here! Let me know how it works out for you!

  15. Hi Theanne, finding my way around your new look blog! You have been busy, online and in the garden.
Your patio is going to be a very productive piece of real estate in a very short few months!
we always begin with keeping records of what we buy then meaning to weigh and record produce to see if the plots are paying their way but usually forget quite quickly!
Thanks for visiting while I was offline for so long and for your concern, working our way thourgh a lot of personal problems at since beginning of dec and still doing so with the support of some great friends and family.
Getting out in the fresh air and feeling the wind in my hair reenergises me a whole lot and I am thankful I can do it.

  16. Thanks for choosing to follow my blog about float cabin living. I do quite a bit of gardening in pots on my cabin deck. Too early yet to do planting, but I have started to work up my soil. My traditional planting week is Easter. Seems to work for our region. Your butterfly is interesting. We get a few around our place, especially Swallowtails. - Margy
